本标准适用于有关粉末冶金的术语。本标准代替GB/T 3500-1998《粉末冶金 术语》。本标准与GB/T 3500-1998相比，主要有以下变动：
——删除了ISO前言；
——修正了个别词条目录不对的情况；
——将2216条内容整合到2215条，其中有部分名词的顺序有所变动，如1120~1123提至1117~1120，增加了部分词条的备注说明；
——修正了GB/T 3500-1998中部分词条的释意，以便理解；
——更新了引用的国家标准及其内容，共有9个国家标准进行了更新；
——为方便使用，由中文索引改为中英文对照索引。
